Are you a survivor of sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE)—sometimes called “reparative therapy” or “ex-gay therapy”—at the hands of a medical or mental health provider? Equality California is working in the legislature to put an end to the use of these “therapy” tactics that have no sound scientific basis and that cause lifelong damage to LGBT people subjected to them. This bill faces steep opposition in the legislature and we need survivors to share their stories to help advance this important legislation. We may follow up with you to ask you to share your story with legislators, media or LGBT equality activists.
Senate Bill 1172 would ban all sexual orientation change efforts with respect to minors, regardless of a parent’s willingness or desire to authorize such “treatments.” For adults, the bill would prohibit psychotherapists from engaging in sexual orientation change efforts without first disclosing the fact that homosexuality is not a form of mental illness, that SOCE is opposed by all major medical and psychological organizations and that SOCE carries significant risk of harm to the patient. The practitioner must then obtain the patient’s informed consent.

Taking Down “Ex-Gay” Ministries
GCI succeeded in lobbying for SB 1172, which is a bill that would outlaw the ability of state-licensed psychiatrists to practice “Reparative Therapy” on minors. Now we must now lobby for both Federal legislation and a stronger rejection of the mistreatment of LGBT persons within churches.

No More Tolerance for the Ex Gay Community! Petition to the California State Senate! →
CALIFORNIANS! We are one of the most enlightened places in the United States, but we somehow still allow tolerance for pseudo-science and cult groups that continues to commit permanent damage on it’s victims. State Senator Christine Kehoe has responded to my letter stating that she will urge the California LGBT Senate Caucus to take up legislation to further restrict and prosecute these rogue groups in our next Session (in 2013)!

Tell the California State Senate-LGBT Caucus to introduce legislation in 2013 to restrict “Ex gay ministries” from abusing minors! We have support by State Sen. Christian Kehoe. However, she is termed out and the legislative session is over in Sacramento until after November. We need YOUR SIGNATURES to tell the Senate to pass legislation next year! It takes 30 seconds!

When Gay or Transsexual Christians Talk About Rick Santorum….
Let’s remember this little verse: “But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” - Matt. 5:44
It is so much easier to fire back at him in hate and anger, but we’re called to be so much better than that. It’s not easy, no. Even I have a strong dislike for the man. But we aren’t called to do any less.
So this means: No more cuss-filled posts about how bad he is. No more reblogging mocking photos. No more rants about how much you hate Republicans.
And I admit, I echo all those feelings. I am in no way “perfect”. And I struggle with hating back. But we as a Church Body need to reverse these feelings and discuss how we may better maintain our dignity and still uphold Matt. 5:44.

This petition requires 350 signatories, this is in coordination with a letter I wrote. Hopefully, this petition will spur State Senator Christine Kehoe to introduce legislation that would prosecute “Ex-Gay Ministries” in California (like NARTH and Exodus International) for abuses rendered on its participants/victims and outlaw the use of “reparative therapy” on minors (those under 18).
